Cherokee is a registered quarter horse who came to us in our first neglect case when we rescued him from a property with another horse due to neglect and malnourishment. He cannot be ridden due to bad feet so he’s forever a spoiled pasture horse. He has one “moon eye,” which means he has one blue eye, such a handsome guy!

Cherokee was also the catalyst in starting HeartsHerd Animal Sanctuary & Rescue Center – we had always rescued animals, however, until Cherokee and six others with him came to our property did we actually realize we needed to do more. Cherokee gave us reason to go from individuals wanting to help animals, to establishing our non-profit organization and ultimately registering in New York as a 501(c)(3) in 2010.
